Captain Robert Carter,
is an Assistant Professor of Military Science and the Gateway Battalion
Webmaster. He has served over 17 years in the Army
National Guard and Army Reserve.

He was commissioned as a Transportation Corps Officer from Loyola University,
Chicago, Illinois with a B.A. (History w/minor in
Classical Studies) in 1990. He then branch
transferred into the Infantry. He has completed the
Infantry School Airborne Course; Infantry Officer Basic Course; Infantry School, TOW Leader Course; RC Infantry
Officer Advanced Course, Phase 1; Battalion Motor Officer Course
(nonresident); 29th ID Light Leader Course (resident); CTARNG
Pre-Command Course (resident)and the RC Infantry Officer Advanced Course,
Phase 2 . In 1997 he complete a Master's Degree in
Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, Connecticut
and earned his administration certification form there in Fall of 2000. In 1997 he branch transferred again into the Medical
Service Corps As a Medical Service Corps Officer he has completed the AMEDD Officer Branch Qualification Course Advanced
(nonresident); Movement Officer Course;earned the
Military Historian Skill Identifier (5X); and completed the Commanders Safety
Course and the School of Cadet Command (nonresident), and the Combined Arms
Exercise.
His military awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious
Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Bronze Hourglass; Army
Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters ;
Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global
War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal; National Defense
Service Ribbon ; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon, Illinois State
Active Duty; and Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge.
CPT Robert Carter is a native of the Chicago area. He is happily married to Deborah Lynn (Adam) Carter and
they have two children Abigail and Bethany. He is
currently studying at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis to become ordained as a Lutheran
Minister, and then branch transfer to the Chaplain Corps.
