Major Owens was commissioned from
Central Missouri State University ROTC in December 1997. After
Completion of the Infantry Officer Basic Course he was assigned to 2nd Battalion
27th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks Hawaii. There he served as a
Rifle Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader and a
Company Executive Officer.
MAJ Owens was then assigned to serve with 1st Brigade 4th Infantry
Division following his completion of the Infantry Officer’s Advanced
Course. While at Ft Hood, MAJ Owens served as the Brigade’s
Tactical Command Post Commander, and deployed his element to Iraq for the initial assault into Baghdad in March 2003. MAJ Owens again deployed to Iraq in
January 2004 to help train and establish the New Iraqi Army.
In July 2004 MAJ Owens assumed command of D Company 1-504th Parachute
Infantry Regiment at Ft Bragg NC. While in command MAJ Owens deployed
his company to Iraq
in October 2005 to help establish security in the northern sector of the
country.
MAJ Owens relinquished command in July 2006 and was assigned as the
Assistant Professor of Military Science at Washington
University in St. Louis. His awards and decorations
include; the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Accommodation
Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman
Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Ranger Tab.
