Major Norman A. Taylor

Major Norman A. Taylor is an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and the Battalion Executive Officer for the Gateway Battalion, 10th Brigade, Western ROTC Region. He has served over 20 years in the Army with over 16 years on active duty and approximately 6 years in assignments/deployments overseas. 

His assignments include: 1986- BASIC Training at Fort Knox; 1987- AIT at Fort Eustis; 1987 to1989 – Panama; 1989 to 1991- Hunter Army Airfield/ Fort Stewart, with deployment to Saudi Arabia/ Iraq in 1990 to 1991; 1992 to 1993- OCS and Infantry Training at Fort Benning; 1994 to 1996- Germany, with deployments to Kuwait in 1995, and Bosnia in 1996; 1997 to 2000- Battle Projection Group in Birmingham, Alabama; 2001 to 2004- 359th Signal Brigade, Fort Gordon;  2004 to 2006- Human Resources Command Saint Louis. He served as an Infantry Platoon leader while deployed to Kuwait, and as a Signal Company Executive Officer while deployed to Bosnia.

Major Taylor was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1993.  He has earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of the State of New York and a Master of Education from Troy University. His military education includes the Infantry Officers Basic Course; the Signal Officer Branch Qualification Course; the Signal Captains Career Course; the Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3); and the Army Airborne Course. His military awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal x 2; the Army Commendation Medal; the Army Achievement Medal x 4; the Army Good Conduct Medal x 2; the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; the Expeditionary Service Medal; the National Defense Service Medal x 2; the; the Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Battle Stars; the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon x 3; the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; the NATO Service Medal; the Kuwait Liberation Medals of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia; the Air Crewmember Badge and the Airborne Badge.

Major Taylor is a native of Fayette, Alabama. He is married to Jacque (Porter) Taylor also of Fayette, Alabama. They have four children.
